I just purchased one month of Gold Membership. It was labeled as costing $4.99, but when I saw my receipt on Paypal, it said I'd been charged an additional 25 cents due to a 5% Oregon sales tax. As I live in Oregon, I know that there is no sales tax, and never has been. Does anybody know why I was charged a tax like that? I'm just curious.

I do no remember about that if Admin said something about that in the past. Already tried to open a ticket with Paypal? I'm not sure Getref hasn't nothing to do about that.

I know that Jay HAS to collect GST, sales tax for Canada. Maybe PayPal just has it set to say whatever state you're in?

I believe you simply had a fee on your payment.

I found that too. It must be the GST. We have a sales tax in WA but it's more than 5%. The good news is that AlertPay doesn't charge it.

It is the Canadian GST; Jay HAS to charge it.

Please read the whole thread. Where YOU are means nothing; GST is charged in Canada and GetRef is required to collect it.

Hey guys, Yes because I am an actual lawful company, if you reside in canada or the US my accountant informed me that I must charge GST. You might be eligible to get it back if you save the receipt and petition the Canadian government. Probably not worth your effort tho. Thanks, Jay

And the tax is required everywhere?

No, it is only required when you buy something from WITHIN CANADA WHICH IS WHERE THIS COMPANY IS LOCATED! Please read the thread!

Just following instructions given to me by my accountant. She said that because the GetRef service is provided from a Canadian company, any purchase made from me must include the 5% GST. If you have a problem with it, that's cool, but you need to contact the Canadian government, save your paypal or alertpay receipts, and you might be able to get refunded. Jay

The hassle of which will cost you lots more than the few cents of tax. Can we end this thread now? The question has been answered. Three times.
